Driving data‑driven, human‑centered products for sustainable impacts

This month, I wrapped up my last project as a Flixi and one of the proud organizers of Flix Data Community Onsite 2025, just in time to officially become a full-time job seeker during my garden leave. Spoiler: no one can resist a good data event, not even me!

Since 2023, the Flix Data Community Onsite has been the yearly rendezvous for anyone who breathes data – whether you produce it, consume it, or just pretend you understand it at meetings. It’s all about sharing best practices, networking, and geeking out over new tools and topics.

This initiative has been one of the most impactful experiences in my professional and Flix journey. It holds a special place in my heart, thanks to the brilliant and dedicated colleagues like Anna Maria, Andrea Fenzi, Berit Johannes, Lais Tardelli, Noemi Carannante, and many internal and external partners, including facility management, internal communications, and speakers. You made this unforgettable.

The 2023 inaugural event is especially memorable. Our newly-formed Customer Service Intelligence team (Harleen, Mostafa, Umair, and myself) somehow pulled off 100% participation on a zero budget. With some clever planning – think free bus rides and strategic lodging funded by employee vouchers and L&D budgets – we made it happen. Who says data pros can’t be resourceful?

Inspired by the value and positive feedback from that first event, I was honored to join the organizing team for subsequent onsite events. The 2024 edition was equally memorable, featuring inspiring stories such as

  • A friend, Mario Krastev, traveling from Sofia for professional growth in data and analytics field
  • A friend and a new comer, Antonio Panta, gaining deep insights into Flix’s data landscape
  • A friend and a business stakeholder, Nehalika Anand, expanding the understanding of data product complexities and advocating about it to the other business stakeholders
  • Managers actively supporting their teams through learning sessions as presenters.

With my background and experiences in data, analytics, product management, computer science, and innovation management, I strongly believe initiatives like the Flix Data Community Onsite should become a norm across organizations. They offer key benefits:

  •  Knowledge Sharing and Skill Development: Onsite data communities bring together data experts and beginners, facilitating the sharing of knowledge, training, and technical assistance which builds confidence and data literacy across all levels of the organization. This fosters a supportive environment where people learn and grow collectively in their use of data tools and techniques.
  • Enhanced Collaboration and Innovation: These events unite individuals from different departments, breaking down silos. Collaboration across teams promotes innovative problem-solving by combining diverse perspectives, leading to better decision-making and business outcomes.
  • Boosted Morale and Community Spirit: Being physically present together helps build camaraderie, morale, and a sense of belonging amongst data team members. This mutual engagement strengthens the culture of data-driven decision-making throughout the company.
  • Aligned Company Vision and Consistency: Onsite gatherings help ensure consistent understanding of data definitions, metrics, and usage across teams. This alignment leads to a unified, data-centric direction for the organization and prevents miscommunication from disparate data interpretations.
  • Real-time Engagement and Feedback: In-person data community events enable real-time interaction, leading to immediate feedback and spontaneous knowledge exchange that are harder to replicate virtually. This also aids in showcasing data impact and justifying future investments in data initiatives.

This chapter of my career has given me memories (and some funny stories) I’ll carry forward, hopefully sparking similar magic wherever I land next.

Fun fact: I’m actually a bit sad to no longer be part of the Flix Data Community Onsite organizers, not just because I’ll miss the incredible team and inspiring events, but also because I can’t keep practicing my unofficial hobby as the event photographer or influence any decisions about Flix freebies anymore.

Turns out, being the go-to person behind the camera and having a say on the snack table perks was a lot more fun than I expected! Here’s to hoping my next adventure brings equally great photo ops, and maybe some tasty treats too.
